This ancient city, established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, was the hub of a profitable commercial empire that reached into Syria. when arrival, meet your private local guide and start walking along the 1.2-kilometer-long narrow canyon known as the Siq, which is surrounded by vibrant sandstone. At the end of the Siq, you will have the stunning sight of the Treasury, a great monument with a facade measuring about 30 meters broad and 43 meters high, carved out of red rose sandstone towards the beginning of the 1st century.
